Playing "Chamber Music in any Chamber," the Chiara String Quartet reaches from the concert hall into clubs, bars and galleries, expanding the places to hear live classical music while returning chamber music to its roots in intimate spaces. In addition to performing in concert halls such as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall,Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, and Harris Hall in Aspen, Colorado, the Quartet has performed at Caffe Vivaldi in New York's West Village, Kansas City’s The Brick, Houston’s Mucky Duck, and Chicago’s The Hideout, among many others.
The Chiara is also continually finding new meaning within pieces from the well-established quartet canon. Their performances have been described as luminous, searing, soulful, biting and possessing a potent collective force.
Celebrating HFCM’s 50th Anniversary season, the Chiara String Quartet makes its debut on the Houston Friends of Chamber Music series. They will perform In Stude Concert Hall at Rice University on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 8:00pm. Musical selections include the world premiere of a piece by former Shepherd School student, Gabriela Lena Frank, titled "Milagros" which was written especially for the Chiara String Quartet.
