50 YEARS – AND STILL PURE GOLD!

As the Houston Friends of Chamber Music completes its 50th season and enters its second half-century of providing the world's finest chamber music to Houston, we invite you to share in our long-term commitments to our mission, our music and our place in the Houston fine arts community.

Our mission is to present renowned chamber music ensembles for the enjoyment of the chamber-music loving public at an affordable cost, and to develop new audiences for, and foster the appreciation of this music.

Our music features performances by the recognized top chamber ensembles currently active plus the most promising up and coming chamber ensembles that are not as well-known. Our extraordinary history includes introductions to Houston of many groups that are now at the pinnacle of the chamber music world.

Our place in the Houston fine arts community encompasses more than just ensembles and performances. It includes the impact we make on our Houston Friends – our patrons who consistently and vociferously display their enthusiasm for our mission and music.

We select a mix of works by the standard-bearers of chamber music – the 18th and 19th century masters – but also works by 20th century composers, whose names and music are in many cases relatively new to our audiences. In conjunction with The Shepherd School of Music, we present all of our performances in Rice University's acoustically-acclaimed Stude Concert Hall.

We are proud to share this wonderful musical experience with the younger generation. We do this in two ways: by providing free tickets for students at selected local colleges and high schools, and by arranging master classes for those students led by our guest artists.
